We recommend backing up only your data and not the OS, ie: Windows 2003 Server, XP, Vista.  For OS backups it is highly suggested to create a GHOST image of the OS drive.  Just remember your hardware can be replaced and your programs reinstalled.... with the exception of your data files. ie: pictures, emails, documents and, accounting files. Therefore reliable data protection is a must!
